Yosemite Renaissance XXX
Through October 4th in the Lobby Galleries
The Yosemite Renaissance exhibition is an annual competition that is now celebrating its 30th year. The exhibit opened at the Yosemite Museum Gallery in February before traveling to the Kings Art Center in Hanford in June, and features paintings, photographs, prints, textiles, mixed media works and sculpture. Its purpose is to cultivate diverse contemporary expressions of Yosemite and the Sierra by today’s artists. In doing this, an unbroken continuum is maintained between the Yosemite artists of the past and those working today.
Historically, the arts have played an important role in the creation of state and national parks. By revealing deeper truths about the American landscape, artists of the past and present communicate the value of the wilderness as a national treasure and, most importantly, serve as a force to preserve and protect it.
