IMG_6830A unique exhibition is now open in  Turlock here at the Carnegie Arts Center. We are proud to present the first children’s art exhibition in Downtown Turlock this summer. Children in grades K-8 were invited to present their creative work to the public in the Ferrari Gallery, a museum-quality exhibition space. Entries were received over the weekend of May 8-10. 105 pieces, created by 95 young artists were brought in for the show. Entries were limited to a maximum of three per child, and if they entered more than one work they had to be in different media. Children from Turlock, Hilmar, Ceres, Denair, Winton, Cressey, Delhi, Stevinson and Hughson entered their artwork into this show.

IMG_6842“An exhibition of works by elementary grade kids has been in the Carnegie’s exhibition plans since we opened our doors in 2011, but we hadn’t found the right place in the schedule in previous years,” said Lisa McDermott, Director, Carnegie Arts Center. “We think the elementary school art show is something that has been missing in Turlock; Modesto has had a couple of different youth art shows going on for many years, but we wanted to do something for the smaller communities around Turlock.”

In order to encourage young artists, a hands-on station will be available in the gallery itself while the show is on view. McDermott adds, “When parents bring their kids in to see the exhibit they’ll have the opportunity to make some art right then and there. The more kids see art; the more they may want to try.”
