Join us this summer for the second annual Carnegie Art Showcase, an all media juried exhibition that was open to entries from artists, age 18 and over, residing in all areas of Central and Northern California. A panel of professional artists and educators selected just over 100 entries for this year’s exhibition. $2,350 in cash awards will be presented at a free public reception on Thursday, July 11th.
The exhibition includes pieces by 55 artists from 20 different communities, including Atwater, Cressey, Denair, Fairfax, Fresno, Mariposa, Merced, Modesto, Moraga, Oakdale, Palo Alto, Ripon, Sacramento, San José, Stockton, Tracy, Turlock, and Walnut Creek (a complete list appears below). Works include paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, sculptures, ceramics, digital art, and mixed media compositions.
A reception for the artists will take place on Thursday, July 11, from 5-8 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. Admission to the gallery during regular hours is $5 general; free for Carnegie members and children 12 and under. The first Friday of each month is a free admission day for all.

ABOUT THE JURORS
Jamey Brzezinski: Brzezinski received his MFA at the California College of Arts, his BA at Humboldt State University, and his AA at College of the Redwoods. Brzezinski has lectured in various subjects, including but not limited to 2-D design, printmaking, and systems of perspectives. He has taught at several universities in California, like UC Davis, Santa Clara University, Chabot College in Hayward, and Vista College in Berkeley. Among his solo exhibitions are the 1996 painting series, California Burning, featured in the Vorpal Gallery in San Francisco; the 2013 mixed media collection, Light Side/Dark Side, featured in CSU Stanislaus’ University Art Gallery; and the 2018 acrylic painting series Rocks and Sand: Variations on a Theme, featured in Merced Multicultural Arts Center. Otto Rigan: Rigan attended Oakland’s California College of the Arts when he was just 14 to study academic drawing. He began his studies in Fine and Studio Arts at California State University, Stanislaus and transferred to CCAC during his sophomore year. At 19, he was awarded his first large scale commission. He completed his studies at la Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy. He, then, travelled to London work backstage for Majesty’s Theatre. When he returned to the West Coast, he apprenticed a stained glass master craftsman in San Rafael. His stone and glass sculptures contribute to varied spaces, like San Mateo Shoreline Park, Spaceport, Mesa Community College, and Maui Residence Inn. Joan K. Sharma: Sharma received an MFA from Indiana University, Bloomington and a BFA from Temple University, Tyler School of Art. She co-directed two Fresno State study-tours to India and has traveled throughout the United States, Europe, Bhutan, and India. She teaches a variety of courses at California State University, Fresno including color theory, photography, 2D and 3D design. She expresses her ideas through photography, painting, and installation. She received awards for her photographs from International Photography Awards juried exhibitions in 2016 and 2018. Her photography and mixed media artwork has been presented in Fresno Art Museum, Spectrum Gallery, Gallery 1825 and Arte Americas and is in private and public collections.
