Hot Off the Press: Contemporary Prints opens at the Carnegie on October 18, 2018.

Hot Off the Press is a juried exhibition of contemporary prints, highlighting a variety of techniques and exploring personal and universal themes. Entries were open to artists working anywhere in California. 40 works were selected, created by 18 artists. With a goal of showcasing a variety of printmaking media and techniques, the works selected include lithographs, screenprints, relief prints, etchings, monotypes and mixed media. the exhibition is featured in the Carnegie’s Lobby Galleries and will be on view through January 27, 2019.

This show is presented in conjunction with Posada & the Mexican Penny Press, an exhibition of prints by José Guadalupe Posada and his contemporaries that is on view through December 30, 2018. Posada utilized his skills as a printer and graphic artist to create works that recorded history, informed the public and stimulated the imagination. Contemporary printmakers continue these traditions as they explore creativity and how art functions in current political and social discourse.
